Try walking a mile in our shoes, dudes

So recently in Paris, I coaxed one of my straight guy friends / travel buddy to go to a gay bar with me because por quoi no? As if I would pass up a chance to meet some Parisian lesbians...

He was a good sport about the whole thing but after an hour or so started bitching about how "It's really annoying to get hit on by guys so often, can we just go somewhere else so I don't have to fend off men the entire night?"

I raised an eyebrow at him and said "Welcome to being a woman...every. single. day.  What you experienced for one hour is literally every girl's entire life.  And gay bars are probably the only place that unwanted male attention like this DOESN'T happen, so suck it up, bro.  We're staying."

Whether you're a lesbian or bi or straight, being a woman is being a woman, and there are things we have learned to cope with on the daily that are so common they don't even phase us anymore (when was the last time a guy walked around at night with all his senses on high alert ready to fend off a potential rapist?)--but that isn't to say that we shouldn't call attention to the glaring disparity that exists between navigating the world as a woman versus a man.

Amy Poehler knows this well, and when a talk show host tried to complain about how hard it is that now guys are expected to be cool and nerdy all at the same time (oh GOD NO, please don't make me play too many roles at once!) she had this to say.  As if we needed a reason to love her more:
