Demi Lovato not only took the stage as the musical guest on last weekend's Saturday Night Live, she commanded it with a presence as powerful as her voice. Her first number was a double-duty combo of hit singles "Cool for the Summer" and "Confident," two songs that, when smashed together, create a cornucopia of throbbing beats and extreme vocals that are everything we could want (even if, yes, summer is sadly over and we are much colder for the winter). Her intense energy was the focus of this otherwise no-frills performance, which featured a full band and backup singers to come along with her for the ride. And now you can join in the fun too:
Following this pop explosion, Demi took things in a very different direction with this exclusively piano-backed performance of "Stone Cold," a heartbreaking piece about being scorned by a lover and left for another. With this drastic differentiation in song choices, Demi proved once again that she's a jack-of-all-trades, and truly a genuine talent in the music industry. And while the "Confident For the Summer" mashup may have been awesome in nearly every way, we might actually prefer this tragic, riff-tastic ode to a breakup:
Demi was the musical guest accompanying Tracy Morgan, who made an emotional and triumphant return to SNL following a fatal car crash in June of 2014 that took the life of his friend, comedian James McNair. Tracy's 30 Rock family including Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, and Jane Krakowski even stopped by for the emotional episode. You can watch clips from the episode here.
