WATCH: The Hillary Clinton Pro-Marriage Equality Campaign Video That Will Make You Cry
Hillary Clinton's campaign came out with a beautiful video today in support of same-sex marriage. The video layers her words about gay rights over footage of diverse couples being utterly adorable with each other. When I watched it, my face started leaking this weird water out of my eyes. So bizarre.
It's hard to imagine that it wasn't until two years ago that Hillary announced her unequivocal support for full marriage equality. During her Senate run in 2000, she declared that she would have signed DOMA had she been in her husband's shoes back in 1993. Her stance has evolved rapidly, and some might say it's only changed for political reasons. I actually see that as a good thing. In the 2008 campaign, LGBT rights were a third-rail topic. No one could afford to make a strong declaration in support of them. Now, 7 years later, we have a popular candidate making a video about her support for our right to be recognized. It is now not only politically viable, but valuable to be in favor of equality. And that’s progress I can get behind.
