You can't deny that it's a basic human need to want to be accepted in a community of our peers. That want is certain to have been felt by many LGBTs in their youth, but that feeling never really goes away. And that's the basis for actor/writer Michael Henry's new series, The Journey of Being Likable.
The rising comedian superstar recently dropped a series on his YouTube channel that entails the sometimes (yet often) cliqueness of gay culture, and bares all in a brutally honest and hilarious way.
Focusing on the kind bonds of friendships surrounding him and the moral of being yourself in all it's perfection makes Henry's show a real stand out in the LGBT sphere, a landscape where content is typically centered around sex and somber, stereotyped depictions of coming out.
"I wanted to open the show with me dancing and hammer in just how much himself the main character is, and then how he transports himself to where he wants to be," Henry said. "He’s still his colorful self and everything, but he just wants to be a part of another group, one that he thinks will make him better. That’s a very relatable thing for anyone, but particularly a gay guy, to want to be someone else."
Mixing in the charm and wit of his sketch comedy virals, and adding a whole lot of heart, this is a story you'll want to binge two or three times.
