WATCH: New Promo for Lesbian Moms Series 'The Fosters' Asks 'How Do You Define Family?'

The first teaser promo for ABC Family’s The Fosters had affectionate lesbian moms (Teri Polo, Sherri Saum) front and center nurturing their family, but the new promo also pulls in some of the show’s built-in tension when their new foster kid tries to assimilate with the family that consists of a biological son and two adopted kids. The first teaser promo for ABC Family’s The Fosters had affectionate lesbian moms (Teri Polo, Sherri Saum) front and center nurturing their family, but the new promo also pulls in some of the show’s built-in tension when their new foster kid tries to assimilate with the family that consists of a biological son and two adopted kids, AfterEllen reported. The show’s tagline asks, “How do you define family?”

Polo and Saum play Stef and Lena respectively.  Saum’s Lena is a school principal who agrees to take foster kid Callie in without consulting with her partner Stef, who’s described as a “tough but kind” police officer who’s not initially looking to add to the family. But when all is said and done Stef packs heat, defending her family like a mama bear.

Australian actress Maia Mitchell plays Callie, the troubled teen who disrupts the Fosters’ way of life, while Louisiana native David Lambert plays the couple's biological son Brandon, reports Deadline.

ABC Family has been a standout with thoughtful representation of characters on the LGBT spectrum on Pretty Little Liars, The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Greek. We can’t wait to see where the Jennifer Lopez family drama The Fosters has in store. The show airs June 3.
