When I Came Out as Bisexual
Unfortunately, there isn’t a bisexual scene or community nearly as large as the gay one. As a bisexual man, entering the gay scene can feel daunting. Understandably so. It is! When I came out a bisexual, I was ecstatic to go to gay bars, join gay sports teams, attend gay-specific events and date gay men. Little did I realize, I wouldn’t be welcomed with open arms by the gay community. In fact, being newly out and identifying as bisexual, I felt like an outsider from the gay and straight communities.
That’s no longer the case. I feel (for the most part) welcomed by the gay community. This is partly due to the fact that I’m more confident in my sexuality, but also because I now understand how to interact with the gay community as a bisexual man. Here are 5 things I learned while exploring the gay scene as a bisexual man.
