Pop star Katy Perry showed off her playful side during Elton John’s 20th Annual AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party on Sunday night when she dropped $50,000 for at-home cooking lessons with celebrity chef (and out lesbian) Cat Cora, according to US Weekly.
The songstress was reportedly tipsy and having a good time at the gathering when she decided that she needed Cora’s help in the kitchen.
Perry’s initial bid of $50,000 was quickly bested by $30,000 when New York Giants co-owner Steven Tisch bid $80,000. In response, according to guests, Perry then emptied her purse in an attempt to find more money. Luckily for Perry, she and Tisch were able to come to an agreement… they decided to share Cora’s services for $100,000.
All proceeds from the auction go to Elton John’s AIDS Foundation, which funds HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs.
Cora is best known as the “Iron Chef” on Food Network’s Iron Chef America. And in 2005 Cora co-founded Chefs For Humanity, which is a coalition of chefs and culinary professionals who raise funds for important emergency and humanitarian aid, nutritional education, and hunger-related initiatives worldwide.
In 2007, AfterEllen first reported that the chef was a lesbian. Cora and her partner Jennifer have four sons and spend their time in California.
