In his new tell-all book, Bobby Brown claims ex-wife Whitney Houston married him at least partially to quash rumors she was in a lesbian relationship. According to Brown, Houston was desperate to stop media speculation she was romantically involved with assistant Robyn Crawford.

"[The marriage] was doomed from the beginning," Bobby Brown writes in his biography, The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But. "I think we got married for all the wrong reasons. Now, I realize Whitney had a different agenda than I did when we got married."

Bobby Brown claims he married Whitney Houston out of love and wanted to raise a family with her. He says Houston, on the other hand, had different reasons for wanting to tie the knot. "The media was accusing her of having a bisexual relationship with her assistant, Robyn Crawford," Brown writes in his book. "Since she was the American Sweetheart and all, that didn't go too well with her image."

Whitney Houston met Robyn Crawford while attending the Roman Catholic all-girl high school, Mount Saint Dominic Academy. Houston has called Crawford the "sister she never had." Crawford resigned from Houston's management company in 2000 as rumors of Houston and Brown's drug use began to reach epic heights.

In the unauthorized Whitney Houston biography, Good Girl, Bad Girl, author Kevin Ammons states Houston's mother repeatedly demanded the singer "get rid" of Robyn before her relationship with Crawford ruined her career. Ammons also claims Houston paid off former publicist Regina Brown to keep quiet about her relationship with Crawford, allegedly giving her extravagant presents like a gold Mercedes-Benz and free rent on a luxury apartment.

Although Brown seemingly stops short of actually confirming Houston was engaged in a lesbian relationship with Crawford, he says Houston thought the only solution to the rumors was to "get married and have kids. That would kill all speculation, whether it was true or not."

If true - and we take anything Brown says with a truck load of salt - it's a sad world we live in if Houston tied herself to such a douche bag out of fear of being called a lesbian. After all, her marriage to Bobby Brown contributed to killing her career in a far more spectacular manner than a bit of rumor-mongering over an alleged girl-on-girl affair ever could have.

And just for the record, there was that eighties urban legend that was told and retorld in lesbian circles like a horror story at a campfire -- supposedly, Whitney was dating Jodie Foster, who then became romantically involved with her The Accused co-star Kelly McGillis. As the story goes, Whitney discovered Jodie's infidelity, turned up on the set, and a three-way throw-down ensued.

Since Kelly came out right here on SheWired and Jodie acknowleged her female partner at an awards' event a few years ago, will Whitney come out and confirm the rumors? We can only hope.
