Cherry Jones took home the Best Supporting Actress Emmy in 2009 for her work as President Allison Taylor on the Fox series 24. But this year Jones didn't submit her name for consideration.
Numerous outlets reported Monday morning the actress had yanked her name from consideration because she didn't feel her story line on the show's final season was worthy of an Emmy. But as Jones says in an e-mail to the Los Angeles Times' Tom O'Neil, she didn't submit her name for consideration this year because she knows "when to leave well enough alone and be grateful."
From the e-mail to O'Neil: "I relished playing poor old Allison Taylor's descent into Logan Hell. Like all actors on 24 who realize their characters are being sent to the Dark Side, I resisted at first and then of course realized what a seductive playground the Dark Side presents for a dramatic actor.
"This job has offered me time with my elderly parents, given me new lifelong friends, a bank account, and the memory of last year's Emmy night which was one hell of a delicious ride. So honestly it never occurred to me (or my two dear agents who know me well) to submit me this year. One of the lessons in life is to know when to leave well enough alone and be grateful."
24 wrapped up its eighth and final season last month. Jones had been considered a favorite to score a nomination this year.
