Glee star Jane Lynch said that she is very proud of the show for the addition of an openly gay character, to be played by Darren Criss beginning this week.

The Emmy Award–winning actress spoke with On the Red Carpet about the show’s message of acceptance and inclusion at the BAFTA Britannia Awards.

"Anytime you can make kids, especially out in the far reaches, where maybe they're not embraced for having a particular sexual orientation, to give them role models, and hope [is good]," said Lynch.

Starting Tuesday, newcomer Criss will play Blaine, who may or may not get involved in a relationship with Kurt, played by Chris Colfer. Lynch did not confirm or deny the speculation with On the Red Carpet.

"Chris has a relationship,” she said. “And I don't know if it's a love relationship yet with this young man who’s in an all boys school. Because things get pretty hard for Kurt at our school. He's bullied, and his life is threatened. And so he leaves McKinley and goes to this boy's school for a while. So we'll see what happens to him there.”
