Jennifer Lawrence Confirmed to Star as Katniss Everdeen in 'Hunger Games'

Oscar nominee for Winter’s Bone, Jennifer Lawrence, is having quite a year. The young actress is enjoying a meteoric rise to fame following buzz for her gritty role in the Debra Granik film set in the Ozarks, and now Lawrence is slated to play the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in Hunger Games. Lawrence bested other great young actresses for the role including True Grit’s breakout star Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin.

Oscar nominee for Winter’s Bone, Jennifer Lawrence, is having quite a year. The young actress is enjoying a meteoric rise to fame following buzz for her gritty role in the Debra Granik film set in the Ozarks, and now Lawrence is slated to play the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in Hunger Games, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is based on Suzanne Collins’ young adult science fiction trilogy set in a post apocalyptic world.

Lawrence bested other great young actresses for the role including True Grit’s breakout star Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin.

Pleasantville and Seabiscuit director Gary Ross is set to helm the project.

Regarding Lawrence in the role author Collins’ told THR, "Jennifer's just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave. I never though we'd find somebody this perfect for the role."

None of the other roles for the film have been cast yet, according to IMDB.
