Gaga's Moving Defense of Christine Blasey Ford Proves Why We Love Her

While promotingĀ A Star Is BornĀ on Stephen Colbert's show, Gaga spoke of being a sexual assault survivor and praised Kavanaugh's accuser for wanting to "protect" the country.
Lady Gaga, the star of the much-anticipated A Star Is Born remake, appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert ThursdayĀ and spoke movingly about Christine Blasey Fordās testimony about the sexual assault she said she suffered at the hands of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.Ā Ā
Gaga, an outspoken advocate for sexual assault survivors, has been open about her own assault in the past. At the Academy Awards a few years ago, she performed her song āTil It Happens to Youā surrounded by survivors of sexual abuse.Ā
While the cultural icon appeared on Colbert to promote the new A Star Is Born, she spoke eloquently about Fordās testimony September 27 before the Senate Judiciary Committee. She also addressed how Donald Trump belittled and questioned the veracity of Fordās testimony at a rally in Mississippi this week.Ā
āWhat I have seen on the news with this debate of Kavanaugh versus Dr. Ford ā itās one of the most upsetting things I have ever witnessed,ā Gaga said.Ā
āI am a sexual assault survivor,ā Gaga added. āTrump the other day was speaking at a rally and he said, āShe has no memory of how she got to the party. Should we trust that she remembers the assault?ā And the answer is yes.āĀ
āIf someone is assaulted or experiences trauma, thereās science and scientific proof. Itās biology that people change The brain changes, and literally what it does is it takes the trauma and it puts it in a box and it files it away and shuts it so that we can survive the pain,ā Gaga said. āIt can cause complete avoidance of wanting to even remember or think about what happened to you.āĀ
Gaga went on to praise Ford for her bravery for speaking out on behalf of all survivors and for trying to save the country from being saddled with Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court justice for the duration of his life.Ā
āWhat I believe that I have seen is that when this woman saw that Judge Kavanaugh was going to be possibly put in the highest position of power in the judicial system of this country, she was triggered, and that box opened,ā Gaga said. āAnd when that box opened, she was brave enough to share it with the world to protect this country.āĀ
