Sapphic fans, rejoice!
Anne Hathaway has playfully joked about a lesbian film with her Devil Wears Prada co-star Emily Blunt this year, but fans are now finally getting some steamy sapphic content from the legendary actress in her new film Verity.
In the movie, Anne plays the titular role of Verity Crawford, a highly successful, prolific author who serves as the central enigma and antagonist of the story. Her books are written from the perspective of the villain, so the content in her novels is quite graphic and horrific. After a car accident leaves her paralyzed, her husband Jeremy Crawford (played by Josh Hartnett) hires Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) to finish his injured wife's book series.
In order for Lowen to properly wrap up the series, she moves in with the married couple and uncovers secrets that cause Lowen to hallucinate and have wild dreams. Some of those nightmares even include Lowen making out with Verity, which naturally had queer fans screaming for joy as they saw Dakota kissing Anne in the steamy trailer.
"Spicy sapphic scenes! I love that! That'll be on my tombstone. It was very technical, but obviously incredibly enjoyable. I got to make out with the two of them for a few hours! One of them would be under me, one would slide out, and then another would slide in. It was very technical and that is art," Johnson tells Out.
While Verity is considered a psychological thriller, fans will be thrilled to watch all of the sensual moments between the love triangle throughout the film. Josh Hartnett says his sexy scenes with both Anne and Dakota were easy to create thanks to the professionalism on set.
"We had such great chemistry as friends on set! The sexual scenes were a little bit goofy when we weren't filming. You have to keep it light and keep moving! The chemistry in the film is palpable. It comes from mutual respect and understanding," Hartnett says.
Verity serves as Anne's fifth major motion picture released in 2026, so she has certainly been keeping her passionate fans fed with her diverse roles this year. Since her humble beginnings as an actress, the LGBTQ+ community has supported her in all aspects of her career, which is a blessing she doesn't take for granted.
"It just reinforces something that I know to be true, which is I would be nothing without the queer community, even if I wasn't an actress. When I think about what I love about beauty, what I love about art, what I about culture, and what I just love about being a human being... the queer community has been at the center of it since day one. I never want to think about my life without that. The fact that I'm receiving support from a community that is so dear to me... it means the world," Hathaway says.
Verity hits theaters on Friday, October 2.
