Fashion Faux Pas at the French Open: Put Some Clothes on Venus!

The news this week is chock full of French Open Tennis. The problem is no one is talking about the scores or the sport; everyone is gabbing about the attire. I was geared up to be righteously indignant about how women are objectified and no one wants to just talk about the sport anymore and then I saw the pics. Sweet Jesus, are those some God-awful clothes…

I will quickly dispense with the match winners and then you’ll get to see some of the most hideous outfits ever designed.

To everyone’s surprise, Venus Williams has been knocked out in the fourth round. The person to do it was Nadia Petrova wearing what Women’s Sports Fat Louie aptly called modern dance auditions with a Betty Crocker overlay.”

Nadia was possibly so conservatively dressed because Venus won her first match wearing a corset from the chorus line of the Moulin Rouge. She even showed her ass high kicking:

Now I’m all for the ladies showing off what they’ve got, but I think I have to side with the snobbish likes of Wimbledon on this one. It’s not the right outfit for the occasion. Like a no-collared shirt on the links or shorts when you slide into third base; it’s gonna hurt and you’ll probably lose money. Trust me when I say, if I had an ass like that, I’d be dying to show it off, but let’s just keep sports out of it shall we?

Venus was behind the design for her outfit, but who pray tell was the creator of this next monstrosity? Why that would be Nike, who gets the award for “sling that small piece of other colored fabric over this way.” Ladies I give you Maria Sharapova, and yes the outfit does come in other colors:

As I write this, the women are competing in the Quarterfinals. Francesca Schiavone upset Caroline Wozniacki to become the first Italian woman to reach the Semis since 1954. She will play Elena Dementieva on Thursday. Serena Williams will play Samantha Stosur and Jelena Jankovic will play Yaroslava Shvedova on Wednesday’s Quarterfinals.

You should tune in just for the outfits alone…
