Thousands of women in cities across the country will join together on January 17, for Her HRC, a national night of celebration sponsored by Human Rights Campaign. Each host city will feature unique festivities.
“Her HRC is a time for us to come together as women in support of equality for the LGBT community and have fun,” said HRC’s Margot Regula-Rosen, organizer of the event.
The event will also be an opportunity for HRC to garner support of women for the organization’s many local and national initiatives to help elect fair-minded candidates to office and to educate the public about LGBT issues.
Each Her HRC host city will feature a unique program of entertainment, ranging from burlesque shows and karaoke to dessert parties and casino nights, held in a variety of venues, from bars to art galleries. Admission ranges from $10 to $15 and includes an annual HRC membership.
In Washington, DC, the event will be held at Midtown Party Plex and will feature an all-female Afro-Brazilian percussion band, Batala, and performances by hip hop dance troupes DCypher Dance and Life, Rhythm, Move Project followed by an after party with local DJ Randy White and NYC’s Kissette.
In Los Angeles at the famed French-inspired speakeasy Madame Royale in Hollywood, women will celebrate a casino-themed evening with games, including a poker game with a winning prize of a Harrah’s Paris vacation stay in La Vegas. The event will also feature live music, silent movies, DJ and dancing.
In Dallas, the celebration will be an afternoon soiree at Jack's Backyard, featuring a bachelorette auction, live auction, live music by local bands and emcee Psycho Shanon from Dallas’ KISS FM.
Participating Cities are Austin, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, MO, Las Vegas, Long Beach/Orange County, Long Island, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York City, Orlando, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, St. Louis, Twin Cities and Washington, DC.
