Obama's Words in Action? Senate Armed Services Comittee Slates DADT Hearing

A Senate Armed Services Committee hearing has been scheduled to discuss the "don't ask, don't tell" policy as well as the defense budget for 2011. President Obama promised in his State of the Union Address to repeal the military's discriminatory policy against gays and lesbians serving in the military.

A Senate Armed Services Committee hearing has been scheduled to discuss the "don't ask, don't tell" policy as well as the defense budget for 2011.

The hearing, scheduled for February 2, is separate from the hearing planned in February before the full Senate on the ban on gays serving openly in the military, which Michigan senator Carl Levin is working to coordinate.

According to an announcement released by Levin's office Thursday, Defense secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Adm. Michael Mullen will deliver testimony during the February 2 hearing.
