As filming of the Joker sequel continues, more info about Lady Gaga’s take on Harley Quinn is finding its way to eager fans.

The actress was spotted filming in New York City over the weekend, and video captured from the scene gives us new insight into what this Harley’s role may be in Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to Todd Phillips' 2019 film starring Joaquin Phoenix. The shoot took place in Manhattan’s court district, with Gaga-as-Harley walking past what appears to be a crowd of Joker enthusiasts and protestors.

One woman holds up a newspaper with the headline “CRAZY IN LOVE” over a black and white photo of Harley, and shouts “You’re going to hell!” as she walks past. And, well—

The main takeaway from the scene is that it seems likely the film will stick close to some iteration of Harley Quinn that involves her being in Arkham Asylum alongside the Joker. Whether that involves her traditional origin story of starting out as his psychiatrist remains to be seen, but that’s fairly standard for the harlequin, and it seems unlikely to be an arbitrary deviation from the source.

Some people are also wondering if the kiss means Harley’s bisexuality will be canonized and/or explored in this particular world, but a shock value kiss to upset a protestor ultimately doesn’t provide any real insight into something like that.

Still, these little tidbits of information are mostly getting fans excited for the movie, which is currently expecting a release date of October 4, 2024.
