Get ready for a very bad romance.

We’re not jokin’ when we say that Lady Gaga is going to playing Harley Quinn to Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker in the upcoming sequel Joker: Folie à Deux

While rumors have been swirling that the “Bad Romance” singer had signed on to play Joker’s paramour and partner in crime, the singer seemingly confirmed the news with a short musical teaser on Twitter. The video begins by flashing their names and showing their silhouettes as they join together, while the song “Cheek to Cheek” plays. It’s definitely a vibe.

While no plot details have been released, we can take some clues from the name of the film. The subtitle, Folie à Deux, translates to “madness for two” and refers to a mental disorder affecting two or more individuals who share the same delusions. Sounds like a perfect title for a love story between the Clown Prince of Crime and his leading lady.

Harley Quinn has become a fan favorite character with both a cinematic version played by Margo Robbie in three films — Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad — and an animated version voiced by Kelly Cuoco that’s entering its third season on HBO Max (and hopefully not on the chopping block). Despite her sizable fanbase, the character has only been around since the 1990s when she was introduced on Batman: The Animated Series. She was first conceived of as a romantic interest for Joker: a former genius psychiatric intern at Arkham Asylum named Dr. Harleen Quinzel who he manipulated into a twisted love affair. Subsequent stories have seen Harley break free of his mind control and find what seems to be a blossoming (and much healthier) romance with Poison Ivy.

It seems like Harley’s still with Joker — and the two have potentially met their match — in the highly anticipated sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 film, which crushed at the box office making more than $1 billion worldwide and earning 11 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. And, of course, Best Actor, for which Phoenix took home the Oscar.

Joker: Folie à Deux is set to premiere in theaters on Oct. 4, 2024. Watch the teaser below.
