Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy Romance Finally Blooms in DCU's 'Harley Quinn'

This is the slow burn romance the gays deserve.

If you haven’t been watching DC Universe’s Harley Quinn series, you’re missing out on some serious slow burn romance. Yes, the queer kind.

While the first season dealt with Harley’s struggle to get over her breakup with the Joker, along with Poison Ivy’s blossoming romance with a bumbling villain named Kite Man, season two has started in on exactly what fans have been hoping for all along — the first film/TV adaptation of Harley and Poison Ivy’s romance.

Showrunner Justin Halpern got fans’ hopes up before season two premiered, admitting that he veered away from the Harley/Ivy romance in season one because he wanted both ladies to be in a place where they could “really and truly experience a loving relationship and make it work,” which required time to heal from past wounds.

“I don’t want to spoil it, so I’ll just say I think we get to the place where people want us to get to, but we do it carefully,” he said.

And in the latest episode, that payoff finally began.

Spoilers ahead!!

“There’s No Place to Go but Down” saw Harley and Ivy sentenced to life in The Pit, filled with other supervillains and presided over, of course, by Bane. They plot their escape, but naturally everything goes terribly wrong and Harley, who spent most of season one being selfish and not considering her BFF’s feelings, makes the decision to sacrifice herself so Ivy can get away and go marry Kite Man.

Of course, you can’t have Harley Quinn without Harley Quinn, and Ivy is able to save her girl at the last second. And, in a rush of adrenaline, the two FINALLY KISS!!!

The episode ends with both women looking shocked at this turn of events, before cutting to credits without music — a sure sign that something serious is to come next week.

Fans were obviously elated at getting to see a Harley/Ivy romance finally start to take shape.

It’s obvious this series is in good hands, and everyone is psyched to see what’s next for our favorite gal pals. But now that we know they’re on the right path, there’s only one thing left to do.

Make it happen, Warner Bros!
