Nancy Drew is out of mysteries to solve, at least on The CW.

It was announced Wednesday that one of the last remaining shows from the network’s pre-acquisition slate will be ending after the upcoming fourth season.

“We are so honored and proud to have brought Nancy Drew’s iconic determination, individuality and resilience to life in a years-long collaboration with incredible creative talents in front of the camera, behind the scenes and among our studio and network partners,” showrunners Noga Landau and Melinda Hsu Taylor said in a statement. “Our hearts are full of gratitude, knowing that we are able to bring this chapter to a close with intentionality, inclusivity and kindness.”

Nancy Drew put a supernatural twist on the familiar story, following the titular detective and her friends as they investigated the mystical happenings in their small coastal town of Horseshoe Bay, Maine.

The show has seen several queer characters throughout its run, including series regular Bess Marvin (portrayed by Maddison Jaizani), and launched a short-lived spin-off in Tom Swift, which revolved around a gay Black inventor but was canceled after a single season.

Now, Nancy Drew joins almost all of the other CW shows that were on the air prior to the announcement earlier this year that Nexstar Media would be acquiring the network and shift its focus.

The slew of cancelations has been a big blow for queer fans, as many of The CW shows were inclusive and frequently included multiple LGBTQ characters. It’s also one that has echoed the TV and streaming landscape this year, which has seen a staggering number of shows featuring LGBTQ characters — and particularly queer female characters — canceled this year.

Unlike many of the other shows, Nancy Drew at least has the opportunity to wrap things up before they go. The fourth season is currently in production, and is expected to premiere early next year.
