Lately, Kesha's been taking the world by storm.
However, it's not because she has a new album or single or video. Unfortunately, Kesha Rose Sebert has been in the headlines because she recently lost a lawsuit trying to break her contract with Sony after alleging she was assaulted by her producer, Dr. Luke. This story is years long (CNN can explain the details), incredibly disturbing, and ultimately heartbreaking. Kesha can no longer release new music unless it's under the label of her abuser, and she's also recently written a statement that highlights the negative impact this case could have on young women who may see this as a reason not to come out about their own abuse. Â
Kesha is an artist who deserves to be heard, and that she's been silenced is unfathomable. And while many of you may have heard songs like "Tik Tok" or "Die Young" on the radio, it's important to realize that Kesha spans a great deal of genres and is an incredibly talented vocalist and songwriter. We want to take a moment to step away from the lawsuit and take a look at (or revisit, for you die-hard fans) some of her less well-known music that, to the best of our extensive researching knowledge, was not written or produced by Dr. Luke. These songs give us Kesha at her most electric, heartbreaking, funky, and beautiful. Let's celebrate Kesha's unique talent and - who knows -you may find some new favorite songs along the way.Â
