The hip-hop community often gets a bad rap. Although we know homophobia is by no means inherent, for some reason rap doesn't always appear to be an LGBT-friendly genre, especially when you consider its hypermasculinity. But these 15 recording artists are actively working hard to prove the notion that the hip-hop and LGBT communities are definitely not mutually exclusive of each other!

Queen Nicki is arguably one of the biggest names in popular music today, and with that much fame comes a lot of responisbility. Fortunately, Nicki has always been a huge advocate for the LGBT community (who make up a HUGE portion of her fanbase). In a 2010 interview with MTV News, she stood up for bullied queer youth and one of her first headlining gigs during the early stages of her career was as a headliner for Atlanta's Black Gay Pride festival in 2010.
