Demi Lovato has been a longtime LGBT advocate, but now it seems like she's a little more than an ally. According to People, Demi - who recently split with boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama - has declared that, as far as her sexuality goes, "It's something I don't think needs to have a label: As humans, It's just about a connection with someone."
Demi's dedication to the LGBT community has been extensive and creative in the last few years, including an official music video filmed at L.A. Pride in 2014 and the inclusion of queer imagery in her "Cool for the Summer" video last year. She was also awarded the GLAAD Vanguard Award this year, and Demi and Nick Jonas recently cancelled the North Carolina leg of their "Future Now" Tour due to HB2's "hateful" policies. Check out their powerful statement on the decision here:
In the People piece, Demi recounts growing up in a supportive family and why she believes her advocacy shouldn't be seen as out of the ordinary, stating, "I grew up in a home where there was absolutely nothing wrong with somebody identifying as another sex or liking the same sex. People will say, 'Thank you so much for all that you do.' And my response is: It's just something that people should already be doing."
We couldn't agree more, Demi! Soak in your truth, superstar.
