Get ready for Montero!

Lil Nas X has been dominating pop culture so hard it’s easy to forget we’re still waiting on his debut album. That wait is fortunately almost over because the album, entitled Montero, drops on September 17

Lil Nas X made the announcement with a promo video on Twitter. “Creating this album has been therapy for me. I’ve learned to let go of trying to control people’s perception of who I am, what I can do, and where I will be. I’ve realized the only opinion of me that really matters is my own,” he wrote.

In the promo footage, Lil Nas X appears as a news anchor, picking up the story the rapper began with his “Industry Baby” video alongside Jack Harlow. The anchor drops some breaking news about the duo’s prison break. “Power bottom rapper Lil Nas X and his caucasian friend led a prison escape this morning,” says the anchor. “The talentless homosexual was sentenced to five years in prison. Investigators say anybody who comes into contact with the power bottom contact authorities immediately.”

The video then transitions into a preview of the new track “That’s What I Want.” Unapologetically gay and catchy, the song begins with the lyrics “Need a boy who can cuddle with me all night.”

Later, Lil Nas X let fans know via Twitter that his album marks the beginning of a new era, the “power bottom era.” It’s a reference to a Twitter exchange he had with a fan back in June who asked him if he was a top or bottom, to which the artist replied “Power bottom.”

No surprise, fans are hyped for the new album and many shared their excitement on Twitter.
