"When I was 18 I think it would have been a different story... They really embraced me. My mom ran over to my sister's house, "Janey's gay!"

Jane Lynch was on Chelsea Handler’s late night talk show to promote her memoirs, co-written with wife Dr. Lara Embry, Happy Accidents.

Lynch chatted with host Handler about sharing her personal coming out experience in the book and the reaction of her beloved parents.

Just as important to note as every It Gets Better video and heartbreaking horror story about the hardships of coming out, are the happier, loving, and supportive responses from parents like Lynch’s.

"I came out at 32, to my parents anyway. I mean I was living the gay lifestyle prior. I was distanced from my parents and felt very separate from them, so I wrote them a letter basically pouring my heart out.

"It was great. They had felt the distance. This was 12 years later than when I was 18. When I was 18 I think it would have been a different story. They really embraced me. My mom ran over to my sister's house, "Janey's gay." They all hugged. Big party." [Laughs]
