You’re not going to be able to eat Chick-fil-A at the San Antonio airport anytime soon.
A seven-year contract was just approved with Paradies Lagardère, a company that operates retailers and restaurants in airports and hotels, to add and run a number of known brands to the airport’s Terminal A.
The deal was originally set to include a Chick-fil-A, but in a 6-4 vote, San Antonio City Council pointedly insisted the fast food chain be excluded before the contract would be approved.
“With this decision, the City Council reaffirmed the work our city has done to become a champion of equality and inclusion,” councilman Roberto Trevino said. “San Antonio is a city full of compassion, and we do not have room in our public facilities for a business with a legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior.”
The move comes shortly after a report was released showing that Chick-fil-A has continued to donate tons of money to companies with anti-LGBTQ policies.
This despite the company insisting people need to stop seeing it as an anti-gay restaurant chain, a sentiment a spokesperson for them echoed after hearing about the San Antonio City Council’s vote:
“We wish we had the opportunity to clarify misperceptions about our company prior to the vote.”
Of course, Ted Cruz waded into the discussion, tweeting that banning Chick-fil-A was “ridiculous. And not Texas.”
“The details of this story are even worse. San Antonio City Council voted to ban ⁦@ChickfilA⁩ from the airport bc the company gave to...the Fellowship of Christian Athletes & the Salvation Army?!? That’s ridiculous. And not Texas. #LeftistIntolerance https://t.co/ApTnlpS2E0”— Ted Cruz (@Ted Cruz) 1553368066
Well, Ted, maybe Texans have just grown intolerant of intolerance. Especially from high-profile companies that should really just be serving chicken, not funding anti-LGBTQ nonsense.
