Winning the World Cup would be the peak of fame for most soccer players, but for two Spanish athletes, it was their celebration afterward that turned them into viral sensations.
Spanish footballers Ferran Torres and Marcos Llorente went viral over the weekend when photos of the teammates celebrating their win on a luxury yacht in Ibiza were splashed all over social media, and fans started making Heated Rivalry comparisons.
The viral photos have already accumulated millions of views and show Torres playfully kissing Llorente on the cheek while both men are dripping wet in their swim trunks, and another one where Torres is kissing his cheek while giving Llorente a bear hug from behind.
Torres was the one who scored the winning goal against Argentina at the World Cup, so it makes sense he would be riding a high and wanting to celebrate.
After the photos went viral as people swooned over the men’s friendship that looked like it was veering from bromance to romance, other fans were quick to point out that the men aren’t gay; they’re just European, which has different standards for male friendships than Americans are used to.
One fan turned this fact into a Heated Rivalry joke by writing, “you couldnt do a heated rivalry for soccer bc if you hooked up with another player in public everybody would just chalk it up to you being european.”
Torres reportedly broke up with his girlfriend, Martina Hunter Alguero, before Spain’s World Cup quarterfinal win against Belgium, and Llorente is married to fitness influencer Patricia Noarbe, with whom he shares a daughter.
But the photos between Torres and Llorente looked so steamy that one fan called it “Heated Rivalry football edition,” while others joked that they looked like “they were a couple” and another asked, “Did they get married?”
Regardless of the relationship between Torres and Llorente, the photos show off both men’s ripped physiques and six-pack abs, and that’s something everyone can get behind.
