Presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg and husband Chasten cover TIME Magazine's May issue with the title, "First Family."

TIME's feature on Buttigieg ('Mayor Pete Buttigieg's Unlikely, Untested, Unprecedented Presidential Campaign') breaks down his rise from a small town mayor to heavyweight presidential candidate, lays out some of his political plans, and tells the story of homophobic heckler Randall Terry who hissed at him in a devil's costume on the campaign trail. We also get an intimate glimpse of his and Chasten's marriage and the two open up about their Midwestern upbringings that have shaped them into the men they are today. 

This is the first time a presidential candidate has appeared on the cover with a same-sex spouse, The Advocate reports.
