Caroline Kennedy will seek to fill Hillary Clinton’s New York Senate Seat when Clinton vacates it to become Secretary of State, the New York Timesreported Monday.
Kennedy, John F. Kennedy's daughter, who has primarily remained out of the limelight despite her family’s deep roots in American politics, is expected to ask New York Governor David Paterson to consider her for an appointment to the Senate, according to the Times.
If she lands the appointment, Kennedy will fill the seat once held by her uncle Robert F. Kennedy.
Clinton has said she will not vacate her Senate seat until she’s confirmed as Barack Obama’s Secretary of State, which should occur in January or February, according to the Times.
Kennedy, 51, a resident of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, became close with Obama during the election process and served on the committee that vetted vice presidential candidates for him.
