Oscar winner Charlize Theron has joined
Courage Campaign to encourage everyone to join her at
Meet in the Middle, the event slated for the Saturday after the California Supreme Court announces its decision on upholding or overturning the anti-gay marriage measure, Prop. 8.
An ardent advocate and ally for LGBT rights, in a release Courage Campaign has circulated, urges all to meet her and thousands of other gay marriage supporters at Meet in the Middle in Fresno, "the heartland of California."
A group of grassroots organizers launched the "Meet in the Middle for Equality" in March, and already, the event has over 60 sponsoring organizations attached, according to the release.
"The battle for equality has to be fought in Middle America -- in places like Fresno, California -- not just in gay-friendly cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles," Courage Campaign and Theron wrote in the release.
"California's Central Valley population is far more reflective of national attitudes towards LGBT equality -- and until we engage the communities of Middle America, we will not achieve full equality in California."
The campaign implores everyone to drop everything and meet in Fresno to illustrate commitment and strength in numbers. All of the events will be covered with live web feeds, blog posts, and tweets on the official blog for the event -
UniteTheFight.org"We know the people whose lives are on the line -- those who identify as gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender -- will be there. But we need everyone there. Especially straight people," the release urges.
"This isn't just about California. It's about America. This isn't just about marriage. It's about human rights. On the Saturday after the Supreme Court ruling, we will either celebrate or we will protest. But no matter what happens, we will organize to bring full equality to America -- starting in the heart of California," and it's signed. "I hope you will be there. Charlize Theron"
