Former San Francisco 49er's quarterback  and prominent Mormon Steve Young is promoting “No on Prop. 8," with a sign on his lawn.

Young, the great, great, great grandson of Brigham Young, for whom Brigham Young University -- Steve Young’s alma mater -- is named, and his wife Barbara Young, have broken with the prevailing trend among Mormons and planted a “No on 8” sign in the yard of their Palo Alto home, according to the Salt Lake City Tribune.

Barbara has also donated $50,000 to defeat the proposition, a major hot button issue on Tuesday's ballot, that seeks to ban same-sex marriage in California, according to the Tribune. In a statement, Barbara  said that the family does not condone or believe in discrimination and “therefore our family will vote against Prop. 8.”

The “Yes on 8” campaign estimates that Mormon church members have donated up to 40 percent of its donations, The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Oct. 28.

While his wife Barbara has come out against the measure, Young has yet to publicly denounce Prop. 8, other than the sign in his yard.
