Gallup Poll Confirms Shift in Gay Acceptance Nationwide

The latest Gallup survey shows the percentage of Americans who view gay relationships as morally acceptable is at 52 percent, proving that acceptance of gay rights is moving toward equality, the Colorado Independent is reporting.

The biggest shift was made in the moderate and independent categories, signaling that they may be starting to turn the corner.  The percentage of gay-friendly moderates recorded 64 percent approval, with independent voters weighing in at 61 percent.  That is a 14 and 11 point increase respectively.

However, a huge cultural divide still exists between registered Democrats and Republicans. Democrat support registered at 61 percent with Republicans only about 35 percent.

The most surprising evidence from the study came from the religious voters.  The number of Catholics who view gay relationships as “morally acceptable” jumped 16 percentage points between the years 2006-2010, to 62 percent.

Sadly, Same-Sex Marriage acceptance could still be years away as a separate Gallup poll indicatedthat 53 percent of Americans oppose gay marriage and only 43 percent fully support it.
