8 Perfect Leslie Knope Reactions to Stupid Stuff Indiana Gov. Mike Pence Says

Like the rest of us, Leslie has no time for what comes out of Mike Pence's mouth.

We already got to see Leslie Knope react to businesses who decided to #boycottIndiana. Governor Mike Pence amended the bill on Thursday afternoon, but Leslie is still a little peeved at the things he’s said about the bill—and, you know, the fact that he was probably secretly born in Eagleton. Like Voldemort. So, here are a few of Governor Pence’s choice quotes that really grind our gears.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence

Important note: if you get too angry reading these, just count backwards from 1000 by sevens and think of warm brownies.

1. “As governor of Indiana, if I were presented a bill that legalized discrimination against any person or group, I would veto it.”

2. "The things that have been said about our state have been at times deeply offensive to me and I will continue to use every effort to defend the good and decent people of Indiana"

3. “This law has been smeared”

4. “With the passage of this legislation, Indiana will continue to be a place that respects the beliefs of every person in our state.”

5. "The Constitution of the United States and the Indiana Constitution both provide strong recognition of the freedom of religion but today, many people of faith feel their religious liberty is under attack by government action."

6. "Last year the Supreme Court of the United States upheld religious liberty in the Hobby Lobby case based on the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act, but that act does not apply to individual states or local government action. At present, nineteen states—including our neighbors in Illinois and Kentucky—have adopted Religious Freedom Restoration statutes. And in eleven additional states, the courts have interpreted their constitutions to provide a heightened standard for reviewing government action."

7. "I understand the concerns that have been raised by some, because frankly, some in the media have tried to make this about one issue or another."

8. “Was I expecting this kind of backlash? Heavens no.”
