In an interview with ESPN, Olympic freeskier, Gus Kenworthy, came out as gay. It may not seem like coming out is that big of a deal anymore, but for the sports world, there's still a long way to go. As Kenworthy points out:
"The industry isn’t the most embracing of someone who’s different. I’m nervous about that."
But for Kenworthy, staying in the closest just wasn't an option anymore:
"I’ve gotten to the point where the pain of holding onto the lie is greater than the fear of letting go, and I’m very proud to finally be letting my guard down."
Thanks for your bravery, Gus! What a great example for other LGBTQ athletes who are struggling with the same issues.
