UK lesbian/bi women's drama Lip Service hit screens in 2010 - a grittier, edgier and (arguably) somewhat more humourous version of the L Word. From the start, most people's eyes were on Shane-a-like Frankie. Hip-swinging, sassy and bed-swapping, she was the bad boi everyone hated to love. When the BBC cancelled the series without explanation after the second season (like happened to no other LGBT series ever - *sarcasm*), there were tears. But now, three years after the 2012 demise of LIp Service, "Frankie" is back: only this time her name is Dutch, and she's a vampire killing bisexual hacker girl instead of a coke fiend photographer from Scotland. People change.
The Strain kicked off last year, without a huge amount of publicity (partly due to the fact its main publicity poster was deemed too gruesome for public consumption and promptly banned - oops) and has now returned for a second season. The gist of it all is that a vampire virus is taking over New York and our hardcore heroine is out to stop it, with a few sexy shenanigans on the way. The show's executive producer told xFinity magazine: "There's no need to hang a lantern on it. Dutch is someone who has two compelling people in her life. One happens to be a man and one happens to be a woman."
The Strain is on Sundays at 10 on FX.
