Familial support is instrumental with transgender youth.

A new study has found that over half of American parents would support their child's transition to another gender.

The American Osteopathic Association released the findings of the Harris Poll, an online survey, which states that 53% of adults would support their teenager's transition. 58% of women, 56% of college graduates and 58% of Northeasterners are likely to support a transition as well.

Familial support is an important factor in the mental and physical health of transgender youth. "Parents have a significant role in raising transgender kids," Laura Arrowsmith, a transgender clinician, explained to PR Newswire. "Once they get on board—often after stages of denial, rejection, condemnation and grief—they become powerful advocates at school and with extended family. This is crucial to the child's well-being."

Transgender people statistically experience higher rates of depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicide attempts, substance abuse, and homelessness than the general population

With the attacks on transgender youth by the GOP, Trump's transgender military ban, and the 17th murder of a trans person in 2017 alone, it's more important than ever to love and accept your children for exactly who they are.
