In the book she talks about her process of hiding her sexuality, being terrified of coming out to her mother, and her relationship with Sandra Bernhard. She said that that Sandra really helped her to not only come to acceptance about her sexuality, but she also helped her in practical ways like learning how to use a credit card when she first moved to America and barely spoke any English.
