Awards season? More like Carol season.

Everything's coming up Carol. Unfailingly, the film based on Patricia Highsmith's acclaimed lesbian romance novel The Price of Salt has managed to garner major nominations in nearly every major announced awards show, including the Golden Globes, Independent Spirit Awards, and New York Film Critics Circle. Now, Carol can add the The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Film Awards to that list, as the today it was announced that Carol managed a whopping nine noms, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Lead Actress, and Best Supporting Actress. In previous nominations, we've seen Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara sharing the same category so perhaps they both have a chance at winning here, even though Rooney is arguably just as much of a lead as Cate.

Carol also scored nominations for Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup & Hair. Bridge of Spies is the only other film to receive as many BAFTA nominations this year. Also worth noting is actress Alicia Vikander, who is once again since the Golden Globes nominated twice for her work in The Danish Girl and Ex Machina. As CNN notes, some distinct actresses who have gotten double nods include Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, and Kate Winslet, so keep an eye out for what is sure to be a bright future for Alicia Vikander.

You can find a full list of the BAFTA nominees here. The awards will take place in the Royal Opera House in London on February 14th. We hope Carol fairs well, and we can't wait to see what this current burst of nominations means for the Academy Awards coming up. We're sure we won't be disappointed.
