This season New Girl is taking a big risk.

With the "New Girl" herself, Zooey Deschanel, out on maternity leave the FOX hit has been forced to try something few shows have before: They've written out their titular protagonist.

While Deschanel's character, Jess, is sequestered on jury duty, it's up to the rest of the gang to carry the show. So far, they have more than risen to the challenge, and Deschanel's absense is hardly felt.

Last week, however, they made their smartest move yet by bringing in Megan Fox as the new temporary roommate. Bonus: Her character, Reagan, is an out and proud bisexual.

Even better? So far her character seems to be a damn good representation as far as bisexuals on TV go. Rather than furthering the trope of the caniving, manipulative and lowkey evil bisexual, (I'm looking at you, Frank Underwood, Annalise Keating, and Tyrell Wellick) she is an assertive, successful, witty, and ultimately empathetic character.

So far, the only negatives we've noticed have come from the other characters, such as when Nick suggested that if he were to succeed in his goal of wooing Reagan, he'd have lots of competition:

"She's hot and she's cool and she's bisexual. That means she likes men and women. I can't compete with that. That's too many people, Winston! That's all the people!"

It appears that while we know that bisexuals are not attracted to "all the people," bisexuals are not just attracted to cis men and cis women, and bisexuals are not more likely to cheat than anyone else, Nick does not. But we can't imagine that Reagan, with her take-no-shit attitude and brash way of speaking, is going to let those kinds of false beliefs slide.

Here's hoping that Megan Fox (who is also bisexual herself, FYI) is here to stay, that Reagan will continue to be a lovely addition to the bisexual canon, and that the other characters are able to continue to learn from her.
