Raven Wild hopes to change representation for LGBTQ kids.

LGBTQ-inclusive children's storytellers The Promised Land Tales are back with a brand new fairytale—this time featuring a leading transgender heroine!

The New Zealand based publisher is currently raising funds for their newest book, Raven Wild, through Kickstarter and has already raised over $24,000.

"In Raven Wild, a reckless young boy named Hawk transitions into a courageous young woman called Raven," reads the book's description. "When Raven rescues an injured bird, she learns of an evil poacher's plan to steal a precious gem...a gem with the power to control all creatures great and small! On her dangerous jungle quest to stop him and save an animal kingdom, a connection with a childhood friend called Finn soon transforms into love."

The creators of the book note the importance of trans and queer representation in all forms of media.

"Young people rarely see themselves represented in children's media and positive portrayals of LGBTQ main characters who live happily ever after are few and far between. This lack of visibility sends a harmful message to ALL children that being LGBTQ is less than because we don't appear in the stories they read. We need to change that message."

"We believe it’s important for LGBTQ youth and their peers to see themselves represented in positive ways, where who they are is never questioned or used as a plot device or a point of conflict. Visibility in media is a powerful way to show young people they belong; if we don’t see ourselves in stories, we don’t see ourselves in the world. So join our expedition to bring a little more kindness into the world, because everyone deserves to live happily ever after."
