Thursday nights used to be NBC’s cockblock (even lesbians were glued to Friends in hopes that Monica and Rachel would eventually kiss) but not anymore. There are no less eight TV shows on tonight that have some queer girl fanbases. If you haven’t set TiVo, here’s your handy guide on what to watch:
Secret Circle: Best new teen drama is clearly CW’s deliciously wicked wonder has Britt Robertson (who is also in the new queer-ish comedy, Family Tree) finding out her parents were witches and she is too. So are the hottest girls in school. And a boy who looks gay, even if he doesn’t realize it yet. Bonus gay factor: Queer as Folk star Gale Harold and Natasha Henstridge (who was so hot on Species, she could have turned many of us) co-star and it was written by gay Scream scribe Kevin Williamson).
Mentalist: Forget about the male leads, all girlie eyes are on detective Teresa Lisbon played by the sexy, dark-banged Robin Tunney on this CBS police procedural. As you may recall, Tunney first garnered lesbian fans with a starring role in The Craft, played opposite Kyra Sedgewick in Montana, shaved her head for Empire Records, and is now the ass kicking cop on Mentalist. Oh, and her cousin is Tom Tunney, the first openly gay elected official in Chicago.
Prime Suspect: Seriously, one of the season’s best new shows is on NBC even though men apparently refuse to watch because Maria Bello’s cop, Jane, is a ball-buster who wears a hat. Get over it, boys. Girls love her.
Bones: First of all, Angela (played by the ridiculously hot Michaela Conlin) is openly bisexual and the lead — Emily Deschanel as Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan — is so smart, empirical, and superior that her coming out feels like it should be a matter of time. Oh, and they all solve crimes on this Fox series now in it’s 7th season. So there’s that, too.
Parks & Rec: Ami Poehler. Do I have to explain her appeal? She’s not gay but damn she’s funny and on this NBC smash comedy she’s Leslie Knope — an optimistic government employee with political aspirations that go all the way to the top. And this season, she chose her career over a man. Can lesbianism be far behind? There’s the hope.
Grey’s Anatomy: Every dyke worth their salt knows that ABC’s hospital drama is one of the only shows with a bisexaul series regular: Callie Torres (played by Sara Ramirez, who is so damn hot it makes some of us want to peel back our eyelids so we don’t miss a minute she’s on screen) and her adorable and sexy partner Dr. Arizona Robbins (one of the very few lesbian-identified characters on prime-time).
Big Bang Theory: Geek is chic and face it, the boys on this CBS show are more lesbionic than the women on most other TV series. Plus, Kaley Cuoco as Penny is as hot as ever and Mayim Bialik — a real life neuroscience Ph.D. holder who played TV’s titular Blossom — as Amy is both hilarious and hot in a nerdy way we love.
Community: We watch this NBC sitcom for the whole ensemble (yes, even Chevy Chase), but especially for Gillian Jacobs as the prickly lesbo-wannabe, Britta. Seriously, last season she attempted to be a lesbian — and hang out with one — to increase her cool factor and prove how liberal she was. Then off screen she posed in SM scenes with Alison Brie and cemented our lust.
