There’s good news for Criminal Minds fans gutted over Paget Brewster’s departure at the end of this past season. No, the actress who played SSA Emily Prentiss for several seasons is not returning to the show, but another terrific actress is joining the cast as an FBI profiler. Big Love star Jeanne Tripplehorn will become a series regular on the show’s eighth season, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Tripplehorn, a veteran of the big and small screen will be introduced in the season premiere according to Executive Producer Erica Messer. There are no other details regarding Tripplehorn’s character at this point.

Tripplehorn made television history as part of a trio of sister wives on HBO’s acclaimed series Big Love, but she began her career in the early 90s costarring in Basic Instinct. She later played lesbian opposite Salma Hayek in Mike Figgis’ Timecode.

Criminal Minds' fan favorite and out actress Kirsten Vangsness recently gave a video interview at the Monte Carlo Television Festival where she chatted about Brewster’s departure but also about some casting news that made her very, very excited. We imagine she was referring to Tripplehorn.
