Shot of the Day: 'American Horror Story's' Sarah Paulson as Lana the Lesbian and Journalist

The new season of American Horror Story, starring Jessica Lange and located in an asylum, premieres Oct. 17, and Entertainment Weekly has the first photos of AHS Asylum’s characters. The new season of American Horror Story, starring Jessica Lange and located in an asylum, premieres Oct. 17, and Entertainment Weekly has the first photos of AHS Asylum’s characters. And while we knew that out actress Sarah Paulson, who played a medium on the show’s first season, would be back, we did not realize that she’s playing a lesbian.

EW has a photo of Paulson as Lana, a lesbian and a journalist who was “committed by her own girlfriend after she nearly exposes the asylum Briarcliff’s darkest secrets,” reports EW. From the looks of the hair, the suit and the ‘L’ brooch -- that is surely Ryan Murphy's weird homage to Laverne DeFazio on Laverne and Shirley -- Lana was likely committed at some point in the sixties. I'm not going to comment on that whole committed by her own girlfriend aspect of the story.

The cast, headed up by Lange as Sister Jude, the take-no-prisoners nun who runs Briarcliff, also includes season one cast member Lily Rabe as Sister Jude’s second in command and Chloe Sevigny as Shelley the nymphomaniac. Check out the pics of the entire cast on EW.
