 Addicting Trailers: 'Sucker Punch'

I’m pretty sure my fangirl shrieks of glee could be heard across the Dallas/Fort Worth area when the teaser trailer for Sucker Punch, 300 director Zack Snyder’s newest breathtakingly beautiful and presumably hyper-violent venture, was released this past Monday. Emily Browning, a generally unrecognized Australian actress who took the part of Baby Doll after Amanda Seyfried dropped out, already looks like the fiercest pro around.

What’s Sucker Punch? It’s the story of a young girl (Emily Browning) in the 1950s, who creates a fantasy world to live in after being sent to a mental institution, who then decides to escape with the help of some of the other patients. If the movie’s anything like this trailer, it’s sure to be one of the most visually stunning and altogether fantastic rides of 2011 (the film’s set to be released on March 25th). I’ve been a fan of Snyder’s gorgeous directing style since 300, so it’s quite a nice surprise to see him switching gears from the half-naked manliness of the Spartans to all-female warriors doing just about every form of ass-kicking known to human kind.

Emily Browning, a generally unrecognized Australian actress who took the part of Baby Doll after Amanda Seyfried dropped out, already looks like the fiercest pro around. Fun fact: according to several reports, Emily's also one of five actresses in the running to be Lisbeth Salander in the American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which is already set to star Daniel Craig. If she’s anything as intense as Sucker Punch makes her out to be, she may be just the person for the job.

Emily’s Sucker Punch costars include a Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Carla Gugino and, breaking the Disney trend, Vanessa Hudgens. Posters featuring each actress have already been released, and they certainly do not disappoint. “Next year, you will be unprepared” declares the trailer in between frantic shots of dragons, robots, spaceships, and samurai swords, to name a few of the crazy antics coming from every angle. Sure, this teaser may leave a “what the HELL is going on here?” feeling of confusion, but I, for one, can’t wait to find out.
