Catching Up with Coronation Street's Lesbian Duo Sophie and Sian: Mini GayCap

While there have been plenty of teen lesbian characters on American television lately, including on Pretty Little Liars and Glee, it’s time to check in on our favorite British teen lesbian lovelies Sophie (Brooke Vincent) and Sian (Sacha Parkinson) on the long-running soap Coronation Street.

Poor Sophie has been having a tough time with Sian having gone on holiday with her mum, and although Sian’s back she can’t seem bothered to spend time with Sophie. It’s been tears all the way, especially when Sophie spots a photo on Sian’s Facebook profile of Sian with Chloe, whom she met on holiday.

Sophie’s green-eyed monster is awakened big time and the girls argue. A devastated Sophie thinks Sian is dumping her so she hits the bottle drinking cider while en route to church, convinced God is punishing her.

The choir is in rehearsal singing "Oh Happy Days" as Sophie looks on through the window sobbing her little heart out and clutching her bottle of cider. She heads through the church doors while the choir is belting "Ain’t No Mountain High Enough." When one of the choir members stops to stare at her, Sophie goes a tad berserk shouting, “That’s right take a good luck at the lesbian. The dyke and the sinner.”

Following Sophie’s drunken outburst the Pastor dismisses his flock and asks, “Whatever’s the matter Sophie?”

“God Hates me just like you said.” Sophie sobs. But the pastor disagrees.

“I never said God hated you,” Pastor replies.

Sophie makes a dash for the stairs shouting to the Pastor that they should go and ask God. She heads toward the roof—as she thinks she’ll be closer to God there—with the pastor nipping at her heels to ask God if he cares about her.

Distraught, Sophie teeters on the roof’s edge still clutching her bottle of cider.

“I’m not part of His flock anymore. I’m a lost sheep,” little lost Sophie says.

Keeping his cool the Pastor says, “We love and accept you for who you are.” Assuaged by the pastor’s message Sophie turns to climb down off the roof when a piece of it crumbles and sends her tumbling into the roof of a car below.

A severely injured Sophie fights for her life in hospital with her true love Sian at her side.

When Sophie comes round (thankfully her injuries are not life threatening) Sian tells her that she loves her, and would never leave her for anybody else. Ah bless! It would have been so much easier if Sophie had just asked Sian about the status of their relationship.
