'Coronation Street's' Sophie and Sian Ring the New Year in Right

A note from the Editor: Over the holiday I missed this little nugget, so thanks to Ellen Dean for keeping us updated on lesbian pop culture from the UK.

For Coronation Street’s young lesbian couple Sophie (Brooke Vincent) and Sian (Sacha Parkinson) New Year’s Eve rang in the event of the year. They finally consummated their relationship. And, what was shown to be on the bedside table but an open bible. OMG! What next?

Once they got into the swing of things naturally Sophie wanted more, so in last nights episode she asked Sian to join her in bed again, certain that her mother would not be home for hours.  

Wrong . . .  As soaps go, her Mum Sally caught them in bed!  The music playing in the background was ‘Fight Fire with Fire’ (perfect choice). I thought poor Sally was going to self-combust. 

‘It’s illegal. And, what happened to your vow of chastity?’ Sally demanded of our girls. ‘Now you’re wallowing in sin.’

But, our girls know it isn’t illegal. Sophie, however, is questioning her faith now because she loves Sian so much and can’t understand how love can be seen as being wrong. So we’ll see how that pans out . . . and will Sally allow the girls back home, never mind share the same bed!
