Two-time Tony award-winner Patti LuPone will star with American Idol season one runner-up Justin Guarini in his Broadway debut in the musical adaptation of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, reports website Broadway World.
The musical, based on the acclaimed 1988 film comedy by Pedro Almodóvar, will focus on a group of women in Madrid. LuPone has won best actress Tony awards for the musicals Evita and Gypsy.
Guarini was offered a role in the Broadway production of The Lion King but declined to appear as a contestant on American Idol.
Other cast members in Women include Brian Stokes Mitchell, Sherie Rene Scott, Danny Burstein, and LuPone’s Tony award-winning costar in Gypsy, Laura Benanti. Women will begin previews at New York’s Belasco Theatre on October 2 and open on November 4.
