SheWired's Afternoon Web Crawl for Oct. 7th

SheWired's Afternoon Web Crawl for Oct. 7th

With so much information coming at us on the Internet it's tough to keep up with all of the mostly meaningless but guilty pleasure type of info out there – and some of it is meaningful. Either way, here's a smattering of pop culture from around the web! Today's tidbits include Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Rachel Dratch, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Maya Rudolph, The Real L Word, Pink, Constance McMillen, Burlesque with Cher and Christina Aguilera, Julie Taymor's Tempest with Helen Mirren, The Talk with Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osborne, Hairspray’s Marisa Jaret Winokour, Julie Chen, Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini, and a Flaunt photo shoot with Ana Kendrick.

With so much information coming at us on the Internet it's tough to keep up with all of the mostly meaningless but guilty pleasure type of info out there – and some of it is meaningful. Either way, here's a smattering of pop culture from around the web!

Let’s face it – SNL is never better than women who are on it, so all hail the upcoming Saturday Night Live Primetime special featuring a bevy of the show’s female heavy hitters including Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Rachel Dratch, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Maya Rudolph and Ana Gasteyer among others. As it’s right before the mid-term election, we can pretty much count on Fey reprising her spot-on portrayal of Sarah Palin, and likely to Kristen Wiig’s latest portrayal of masturbation-happy tea bagger Christine O’Donnell.

Just when you thought it was safe to begin ordering Showtime again Ilene Chaiken has announced a second season of The Real Lesbian Housewives of Los Angeles – or as I like to call it The Real L Word petting zoo, where straight viewers and go to ogle, study and occasionally feel close to real live girls who sleep with other girls.

According to a press release, Showtime has ordered nine episodes for a second season that would include original and new cast members – and wait for it—will be shot in and around the greater Los Angeles area! How’s that for a change of venue? If you would like to join the ranks of lesbians sharing the minutia their lives with Showtime subscribers, or if you’d like to be considered to create soft-core porn – see Whitney and Romi at the White Trash Party -- all in the name of offering visibility to lesbians, then email casting@magicalelves.com. And despite the negative tone, I will likely totally watch every minute of this mess of a redux.

Earlier this week we reported that Pink is busy with her greatest hits compilation album, Greatest Hits…So Far, and now she’s released her new single “Raise Your Glass” to kick off the album. Here’s a link so you can listen to what Pink tweeted is a song for her “underdogs.”  And if just hearing Pink’s kick-ass voice isn’t enough, she’s beginning shooting a video for it, and is reportedly looking to marry a lesbian couple in the video.

Last spring Mississippi teen Constance McMillen became an accidental activist when she successfully sued her high school after the administration forbade her from wearing a tux and taking her girlfriend to prom. Now, ABC Family is looking to make a movie about Constance’s ‘promtroversy,” according to Deadline.

Burlesque, the most highly-anticipated, beautiful mess to hit theaters since Showgirls is slated for a Nov. 24, release. Having just reviewed some footage from the film that stars Cher and Christina Aguilera and Stanley Tucci, Cher Tweeted, "Guess all roads lead to Burlesque right now ! Was watching pieces last nite ! Jesus r Xtinas numbers GREAT. people will b pleasantly surprised she's really GOOD in this film ! ME , I'm just ME ! I mean if ya Like Me .... You're gonna LIKE ME ! Stanley's HEAVEN !”

And speaking of beautiful messes, the trailer for Julie Taymor’s Tempest, starring Dame Helen Mirren in the traditionally male role of Prospero –hot—dropped today. Taymor’s responsible for the wildly creative The Lion King on Broadway, Frida, Across the Universe and a prior foray into Shakespeare with Titus. The Tempest opens in December, but so far, reviews have ranged from abysmal to eh. Still, Dame Helen is always worth the price of admission.

The Talk, a View-like roundtable of women including openly gay Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osborne, Hairspray’s Marisa Jaret Winokour, Julie Chen, Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini airs Oct. 18. At 2 p.m. EST and 1 p.m. PST. The women, all moms, will take on topical issues through the lens of motherhood. Here’s a teaser!

Here’s Twilight, Up in the Air and Camp star Anna Kendrick sexing it up for Flaunt mag, although these aren’t really working for me. I prefer Anna a little more uptight with her hair in a bun, a business suit and a briefcase ala Up in the Air
