'Top Chef: Las Vegas' - Gays Be Gone

Top Chef: Las Vegas started off the season with three gay or lesbian chefs in the kitchen and we had high hopes one of them would take home a win. Sadly, this year's rainbow team failed repeatedly to wow the judges and found themselves packing up their knives one by one. There wasn't a promising Jamie Lauren among them.

Top Chef: Las Vegas started off the season with three gay chefs in the kitchen and we had high hopes one of them would take home a win. Sadly, this year's rainbow team failed repeatedly to wow the judges and found themselves packing up their knives one by one.

Lesbian chef Preeti was the first to be axed from the rainbow team. Sadly it was pretty obvious from the first episode this season Preeti was doomed. In her very first Quickfire challenge, Preeti couldn't hack shucking clams - bad lesbian! - and managed to screw her team royally. Unsurprisingly, with such an abysmal start, Preeti shortly found herself on the chopping block. So much for that famed Le Cordon Bleu education.

Ashley was the second lesbian chef to get the axe, although she at least managed to make it halfway through the season. Unfortunately she was consistently lousy in the kitchen and the judges just couldn't take her lack of taste any longer. So last week she got the boot for mangling her ingredients and undercooking a batch of prawns.

Gay chef Ash was also on the bottom last week and managed to plant the seeds of his own destruction during judging. Ash skated through most of the season so far in the middle of the pack - neither inspiring or insulting the judges too badly. But last week he made the idiotic mistake of telling the judges he didn't mind being a lap dog to Mike V. during the team Elimination Challenge. Never, ever tell the judges you don't mind playing second fiddle and lavish ridiculous amounts of praise on one of your competitors. It makes you look like a total loser.

Challenged this week to create a pairing of pork and pinot for a charity event, Ash once again miserably failed to deliver. Ash tried to explain how he had this fabulous idea for a dish that would have rocked their world - but then decided to do something else. Once again he managed to demonstrate the only thing he seems to be good at is making himself look like a fool in front of the judges.

This time, the judges decided they'd had enough of Ash's excuses and failures and drop-kicked him out the door. Thus, the dreams of a rainbow team win have been dashed yet again, for this season at least. Then again, there is always Kevin to root for - possibly the gayest straight man in reality TV history.
