YouTuber Charlie McDonnell just came out as trans!

The British influencer (now going by she/they) was big in the YouTube world prior to stepping away in 2019, gaining a devoted following through her vlogs, music projects, and short films under the moniker charlieissocoollike.

Making very few posts on social media in recent years left some of McDonnell’s fans wondering what was happening in their life. On Thursday, the digital influencer finally made a big announcement on Instagram.

“Gender reveal,” she wrote, sharing a selfie. “Still going by Charlie by the new pronouns are she/they!”

A wave of support from fans, friends, and fellow influencers followed, with even former (and future) Doctor Whoshowrunner Russell T. Davies writing, “Hello Charlie! Much love.” For context, McDonnell was previously a member of a Doctor Who-themed rock band, Chameleon Circuit.

Despite stepping away from YouTube to focus on their writing career, McDonnell has continued to stream via Twitch, with their most recent gaming broadcast taking place over two weeks ago.

She hasn’t said anything further on social media about this big life development yet, but it seems fans who have been following along all this time are ready to support her every step of the way!
